- Panos Mekras, XRPL developer, seeks USDC integration, highlighting its importance for projects like Anodos and broader adoption.
- Circle’s response to Mekras suggests no current plans for XRPL integration, recommending discussions with Ripple for potential support.
Despite its comprehensive utility and adoption, XRPL presently lacks native support for USDC, a premier stablecoin issued by Circle. This gap is particularly notable given the presence of Tether (USDT), another key stablecoin, across several blockchain networks.
Interest in bringing USDC onto the XRPL platform has been vocal within the community, with Panos Mekras, co-founder of Anodos and a developer for XRPL, leading the charge. Initial hesitations centered around the absence of a Clawback feature, necessary for managing transactions in instances of theft or fraud, have been mitigated with recent updates to XRPL’s protocol incorporating this function.
There was a discussion recently about why @circle hasn't issued USDC on XRPL yet. So I decided to email Circle and ask them directly, mentioning also how important it is for our project Anodos to have USDC and EURC on XRPL. This is their answer. @Ripple it's time to step in. pic.twitter.com/2xEU1XZyU1

In pursuit of clarity regarding the absence of USDC on XRPL, Mekras reached out to Circle, highlighting the nature of USDC for ventures like Anodos. Circle’s response, shared by Mekras on social media, indicated ongoing efforts to extend the reach of USDC and EURC (another Circle stablecoin) to additional blockchains. Yet, they specified a lack of current plans to integrate with XRPL, pointing towards Ripple for further discussions on this matter.
The reference to Ripple stirred some uncertainty within the XRPL community. While Ripple plays a role within the XRPL ecosystem, it does not exert exclusive control over it. The decentralised framework of XRPL allows for a collective approach to decision-making across its network.

In addressing a perspective offered by Santiago Velez, who suggested Ripple might oppose USDC’s integration due to competitive reasons, Mekras countered, stating Ripple is but one participant among many in the XRPL. He noted the existence of USDC on the Stellar network as an example, reinforcing the notion that Ripple’s stance is not necessarily a barrier to USDC’s inclusion on XRPL.
