- XRP Ledger’s 2.4.0 update adds five protocol amendments, including mutable NFTs and tools for compliance controls.
- A simulated transaction API allows testing without execution; security upgrades enforce multi-publisher validator list agreements.
The XRP Ledger has introduced version 2.4.0 of its core software, rippled, as announced by RippleX. This update includes protocol changes, functional upgrades, and corrections aimed at refining the network’s performance. Five protocol adjustments, termed amendments, are now open for voting by validators.
Protocol Adjustments
The amendments propose specific rule changes. DynamicNFT (XLS-46) allows non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to be modified after creation, enabling updates to their metadata. PermissionedDomains (XLS-80) introduces tools for compliance by restricting access to certain ledger functions. DeepFreeze (XLS-77) lets asset issuers block transfers on frozen accounts.

Two additional amendments, fixFrozenLPTokenTransfer and fixInvalidTxFlags, address liquidity pool token transfers and transaction flag validations. Validators must approve these changes with over 80% consensus for two weeks before activation.
Functional Upgrades
The update adds a simulated transaction API for testing outcomes without executing real transactions. It also allows specifying multi-purpose tokens (MPTs) in asset definitions and introduces a new XRPL Foundation subdomain to manage network lists. Security improvements include stricter requirements for validator lists, ensuring multiple publishers agree on trusted nodes.
Error Corrections
Version 2.4.0 resolves technical issues across multiple systems. Build errors on Windows with Visual Studio 2022 were fixed, as were inaccuracies in tracking validator votes for amendments.
A script analyzing code dependencies now ignores single-line comments, and a double-charging fee error was corrected. Debug logs for amendment votes and MacOS unit test stability were also addressed.
The amendments enter a two-week voting period. If approved, they will modify how NFTs, compliance controls, and asset freezes operate on the XRP Ledger. The update marks a step toward aligning the network’s infrastructure with evolving use cases while addressing operational inconsistencies. Developers recommend node operators upgrade to version 2.4.0 to access new features and ensure compatibility.
