VIP Blockchain Retreat Gathering This Month
Unlike large conventions that require pricey wristbands to gain entrance, an exclusive invite-only event called the Satoshi Roundtable retreat will take place at an undisclosed resort in North America later this month. The retreat is a gathering under the Satoshi Roundtable group that will see top names in the blockchain industry convene for a few days of discussion and creative inspiration. Developers, executives, and influencers involved in the blockchain are congregating to the secluded location which is limited to only 100 attendees.
The retreat will be the third of its kind during Jan 23- 26, 2017. Attendees include Dr. Adam Back (CEO of Blockstream), Dr. Patrick Byrne (CEO of Overstock), Jonathan Johnson (President of t0), Jesse Powell (CEO of Kraken), Erik Voorhees (CEO of Shapeshift), Roger Ver (CEO of Bitcoin.com), and leading developers like Peter Todd and Eric Lombrozo.
The Satoshi Roundtable consists of a variety of blockchain leaders working within the Ethereum, Bitcoin, Hyperledger, blockchain, and cryptocurrency ecosystem. Participants include C-level executives and founders of Align Commerce, Augur, Bitt, Bitgo, Bitfinex, The Bitfury Group, Bitstamp, C4, Circle, Civic, ConsenSys, Dash, Decentral, Ethereum, Genesis Mining, Ledger, Monero, Netki, Open Bazaar, Polychain, Storj, Unsung, and Veriblock. Senior blockchain executives from larger companies such as IBM, Fidelity Investments, and the World Bank are also participants of the Satoshi Roundtable group.
Even though the retreat will see an A-list of attendees, the retreat aims to move away from the “stuffed shirt” image of typical business event gatherings. Using “open space technology,” the Roundtable will have very few formal-style keynote talks and scheduled sessions. The retreat will focus on participant-driven discussion and organic content and schedules, offering a free-form flow of ideas, collaboration, and conversation. Out of the few talks to be held, one on regulation will be led by Jerry Brito, Executive Director of Coin Center, and will feature US Congressman Cynthia Lummis on how the industry can avoid harmful regulations.
Event host and CEO of Atlantic Financial, Bruce Fenton, commented on the relaxed nature of the discussions:
“Since everyone is qualified to be a speaker, we don’t differentiate between attendees. The seats are arranged in circles and the group together decides the direction of the sessions based on what is most useful to them. One thing people enjoy about conventional conferences most, is side discussions in the hallway or at meals. At the Satoshi Roundtable we design the entire event to foster and facilitate this type of deep, meaningful discussion among peers whether it’s the whole room, a dozen people, or a breakaway with three people who share a very specific common interest.”
Media interaction will be off the record and entrepreneurs are encouraged to move away from their usual “pitch mode.” Retreat activities and agenda include group meals, two full days of Roundtable sessions, coffee discussions, and cocktail parties, as well as downtime to engage in breakaway discussions, informal gatherings, and entertainment. Activities such as golf, water skiing, yoga, tennis, evening poker, and board games are offered during the retreat. Families and children are welcome to attend, and childcare is offered at the venue.
Prospective attendees must be C-level executives of funded startups, blockchain focused senior execs of major corporations, active investors, accomplished developers, leading academics, or notable authors and influencers, in order to be invited. Those who are interested can request a waitlist or invitation from one of the retreat hosts.
