Crypto payments company Truther is set to launch a non-custodial USDT Visa card in El Salvador on January 29, 2025, marking a major step forward for real-time stablecoin spending.

The product allows users to pay with Tether (USDT) directly from a self-custody wallet, without preloading funds, bringing traditional card convenience to on-chain assets.

Real-Time USDT Spending From Private Wallets

The new Visa card processes spending directly from a user-controlled wallet, enabling instant USDT payments at any merchant that accepts Visa. The system launches on Polygon and is designed to function without intermediaries holding user funds. Truther also plans to migrate the service to the Liquid Network as part of its long-term roadmap for faster settlement and broader on-chain flexibility.

Fees, Tax Benefits, and Geographic Expansion

A 2% currency conversion fee applies to transactions, though Brazilian users are exempt from Brazil’s IOF tax, an important advantage for cross-border stablecoin users. Beyond El Salvador, the rollout will extend to Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Russia, positioning Truther as a global player in stablecoin-powered payments.

Strengthening an Existing Payments Infrastructure

Truther already moves roughly $40 million in daily stablecoin volume through integrations such as Brazil’s PIX instant-payments system. The new Visa partnership expands that foundation, offering a bridge between stablecoin liquidity and everyday spending in a region that has become increasingly aligned with digital asset innovation.

The launch further solidifies El Salvador’s role as a testing ground for real-world crypto financial products.
