The Government Blockchain Association, Fostering Blockchain Technology Among the Government Sector

Government Blockchain Association makes a series of announcements and updates about its blockchain advocacy efforts and events.

On September 1, 2017, the Government Blockchain Association (GBA), an organization dedicated to creating a public dialogue around blockchain-based solutions for civil servants and government organizations, provided updates of its continuing efforts and announced upcoming events open to GBA members and non-members alike.

President and founder of the GBA Gerard Daché celebrates 8 years of cryptocurrencies with the community, highlighting the industry’s significant growth since being introduced to the world in October of 2009. In an exclusive statement to ETHNews, he said, "We are currently seeing deep and informed interest in blockchain across many levels of the public sector.  This time next year, I would not be surprised to see dozens of pilots, legislative resolutions, and even funding spread across the various states and high up in the US Federal Government specifically for piloting blockchain based innovation.”

Recently, the GBA has opened new chapters in Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, New York, Lincoln, NE, San Antonio, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. GBA invites individuals who are interested in starting a chapter by visiting its website.

The association will be hosting various upcoming events, including an "Introduction to Blockchain" course in select cities across the country. With the Blockchain Academy, the GBA will host the following events:

·      Blockchain Security Workshop (Online)

·      Chain of Custody and Supply Chain Management

·      Ethereum Development

·      Identity Management

·      Hyperledger Developers Workshop (Online)

For a full list of events visit GBA's webpage.

The GBA has established working groups for various different use cases, including Legislative and Legal, Supply Chain Management, and Food Safety.  Those seeking more information are invited to get involved

On September 12, GBA's Healthcare Working Group will make a presentation at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Emerging Fund Forum. GBA will also participate in a US General Services Administration upcoming workshop focused on drafting potential goals with blockchain technology to improve accountability, openness, and responsiveness from governments.

Come October 2017, in Colorado, Daché will be a speaker at the Global Blockchain Summit, which will also include representatives from various companies, such as the Tapscott Group, IBM, and Hyperledger. Also in October, GBA will be at the ISACA cyber conference, presenting on "Blockchain Transforming Cybersecurity."

The GBA recommends interested professionals get involved and make their ideas known. Daché told ETHNews, "There is an excitement that is palpable so, our goal is to harness this enthusiasm and direct it into working groups that actually influence national, state and large city governmental policies."

He added, "We don’t believe blockchain adoption in the public sector needs to take over ten years as some suggest it might."
