Shiba Inu News: Ethereum Pectra Upgrade Could Transform Shibarium—What It Means for SHIB Holders

  • Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade may allow SHIB, BONE, and TREAT to be used for gas fees via Account Abstraction (ERC-4337).
  • Shibarium stands to benefit from lower transaction costs, faster processing, and improved scalability under the Pectra upgrade.

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade is set to significantly change the blockchain landscape, particularly benefiting Layer 2 solutions like Shibarium. The upgrade, which combines the Prague and Electra improvements, will introduce cost-efficient transactions, faster processing, and enhanced user accessibility.

A Shiba Inu executive, LucieSHIB, has highlighted on X how the upgrade will reduce costs, simplify onboarding, and drive more adoption of Layer 2 solutions. This means no more ETH when moving assets, making Ethereum’s ecosystem more user-friendly. Meanwhile, market interest in Shiba Inu has surged, with large holder inflows rising by 206% as SHIB’s price gains momentum.

Ethereum Pectra Upgrade and Its Impact on Shibarium

As reported by Ethnews, the Pectra upgrade will deploy in March 2025 and will enhance Ethereum’s scalability, staking, and overall user experience. It’s already been activated on the Holesky test net, which is a big milestone.

Sepolia will follow on March 5, 2025 and the mainnet launch will be finalized on March 6 during the All Core Developers (ACD) meeting. If everything goes well, Pectra will be live on the Ethereum mainnet in April 2025.

Staking limits have been increased, PeerDAS improves Layer 2 rollups like Shibarium, and the update has smart contracts and PeerDAS features. Ethereum Foundation developer Tim Beiko says the update optimizes transaction speed, reduces costs, and makes data more available

Shibarium benefits substantially from the implementation of Account Abstraction (ERC-4337) in its latest changes. User transactions now have the ability to use tokens aside from ETH when settling gas fees. The implementation of ERC-4337 by wallets and protocols will permit SHIB, BONE and TREAT to function as Ethereum gas fee payment tokens.

New users will face reduced obstacles to accessing Layer 2 solutions because they do not need ETH as a necessary condition. The Pectra upgrade brings Verkle Trees to storage, which cuts down on node storage space needs and improves Ethereum scalability.

Shiba Inu Market Activity Gains Momentum

The Shiba Inu ecosystem has seen increased interest ahead of Ethereum’s Pectra rollout. IntoTheBlock’s 24-hour data shows massive whales moved 975.96 billion SHIB, with a 206% increase in their overall holdings. Whales continue to invest in increasing numbers in SHIB because they perceive major potential in its development.

SHIB price turned green after the big sell-off in the markets triggered $1.4 billion in liquidations. The move up in Bitcoin from $89,000 has brought up the whole crypto space.

Javon Marks says SHIB is still on its breakout from last year and could predict a price of $0.000081. SHIB burn rate is up, and that’s supporting the price. Pectra upgrade will make Shibarium more competitive and attract new users and liquidity.

Shibarium’s Future: Will SHIB, BONE, or TREAT Be Used for Gas?

Ethereum developers are focused on ensuring a smooth implementation of Pectra, with testing on the Holesky and Sepolia testnets preceding its mainnet launch. The All Core Developers (ACD) call on March 6 will determine the final timeline. If all goes to plan, Ethereum’s fees will decrease even more, and Layer 2 solutions like Shibarium will benefit.

The adoption of SHIB, BONE, or TREAT as gas tokens is uncertain for now. But being able to use alternative tokens for gas will be a big boost to adoption and accessibility. The Ethereum community will watch wallet and protocol integrations to see if these tokens gain more utility. The Pectra upgrade is all about efficiency, security, and affordability, so it will strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem and make it more seamless for SHIB holders.
