- Cardano’s Mithril protocol, aimed at enhancing scalability and chain synchronization, is nearing its mainnet launch.
- Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) have been advised to upgrade to node version 8.0.0 on the mainnet, hinting at an imminent launch of the Mithril protocol.
In a crucial development for Cardano, the Mithril protocol, designed to significantly enhance scalability and chain synchronization, is on the brink of its mainnet launch. This news comes to light through recent notes from a Stake Pool Operator (SPO) call led by Richard McCracken, a prominent member of the Cardano community. As Mithril approaches its final testing stages, Cardano continues to affirm its dedication towards bolstering performance and scalability.
In an advisory to SPOs, McCracken recommended the upgrade to node version 8.0.0 on the mainnet, endorsing a single relay in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and another in manual or topology updater mode. Nevertheless, he suggested a conservative approach towards the mainnet transition by recommending the use of version 8.1.1 only on the preview testnet for the moment. These guidelines highlight Cardano’s efforts to maintain the seamless operation of its network during pivotal upgrades.
The launch of the Mithril protocol on the mainnet appears to be at hand. In a demonstration of Cardano’s community-centric philosophy, stakeholders and community members have been invited to join the Discord channel. This move is to facilitate the coordination of the launch, testing, and feedback collection for Mithril.

The objective of the Mithril protocol is to construct a robust, lightweight blockchain by utilizing a stake-based threshold signature scheme. This scheme aims to improve chain synchronization, state bootstrapping, and address trust issues within blockchain applications.
In other updates from McCracken, he also shared insights on governance. He revealed that Delegated Representatives (DREPs) would have the privilege to remain anonymous. Additionally, there would not be a saturation cap on the amount of delegation a DRep can receive. These updates further demonstrate Cardano’s commitment to cultivating a supportive and inclusive community environment.
