Update: Jaxx Wallet to Support Ethereum Classic
After denying any integration a few weeks ago, Jaxx wallet will soon support Ethereum Classic.
“In the coming days Jaxx will be releasing a major upgrade which will include full ETC support, including a simple way to split ETH / ETC right in Jaxx,” writes CEO and Founder of Decentral and Jaxx, Anthony Di Iorio.
In an announcement, Di Iorio admits they were quick to dismiss the virtual currency because they were focusing on their DAO efforts. Doing so, led to Jaxx wasting much-needed resources.
Di Iorio added that the wallet held back on its support because they were scheduled to launch their integration with Dash, as well as adding new support features for their users.
The backing comes after multiple requests from ETC and ETH fans, according to the announcement. Since wallet support for ETC has been lacking, this addition will give ETC users another option to store their virtual currency.
Update - Wednesday, September 07, 2016 08:55 PST:
In a press release sent to ETHNews, Jaxx announced its official decision to support Ethereum Classic.
Just a few days ago, Apple announced its support for 6 digital currencies: Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, the DAO, and Ripple. Without knowing if Apple supports Ethereum Classic, Jaxx sent an updated version of its app to the iOS App Store. They hope it will get approved in the next few days.

Jaxx Blockchain Wallet Adds Ethereum Classic to 7 Platforms
Days after Apple announces support for only 6 specific digital currencies, Ethereum Classic comes to Jaxx, a prominent, universal blockchain wallet
Toronto, ON – September 7, 2016 – Jaxx, creators of the universal blockchain wallet, today announced the integration of Ethereum Classic (ETC) into its suite of software wallets on 7 different platforms. Only days after cryptocurrency Dash was rejected by Apple’s App Store team, Jaxx launched a new version with ETC integration within hours of Apple’s highly anticipated September keynote, where the iPhone 7 is expected to be unveiled. Jaxx has submitted an updated version of its app to the iOS App Store and hopes that it will be approved in the next few days; Apple has not yet revealed whether it will support Ethereum Classic, the continuing chain of the original Ethereum.
Jaxx Founder and CEO Anthony Di Iorio, a co-founder of Ethereum, said, “Last week, Apple issued us a directive indicating that only six digital currencies were supported on the iOS App Store. As a result, we will be forced to remove Dash from the iOS versions of the Jaxx wallet on September 14, 2016. Although Ethereum was deemed acceptable, we do not yet know whether or not Ethereum Classic will be supported.”
Di Iorio continued, “As progress must be made, Jaxx has today integrated Ethereum Classic in our apps on both Android mobile and tablet, Mac OS, Windows, and Linux desktop versions, and through our Chrome and Firefox extensions. We have also submitted a new version of Jaxx to the iOS App Store for both iPhone and iPad, it is our hope that Apple will permit Ethereum Classic as well for iPhone and iPad users.”
Di Iorio added, “Millions of people across the world are beginning to take advantage of blockchain, a revolutionary technology with transformative power. As Jaxx aims to become a universal interface for blockchains, clarification from Apple would be of great value to our tens of thousands of users. The hard forked version of Ethereum has already been approved by Apple, and we hope that Apple will allow the addition of Ethereum Classic, especially given its wide array of developer support and steadily growing popularity.”
In last week’s Apple-issued directive, six tokens were identified as supported: Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, the DAO and Ripple.
Ethereum Classic is currently the 6th most valuable blockchain token by market cap, valued at $124 million. ETC will today be available on seven of the nine platforms Jaxx supports, with approval pending on the iOS App Store. After receiving an overwhelming flood of requests from the crypto community to conduct an ETC integration, the Jaxx team worked around the clock to satisfy the huge demand.
“Adding Ethereum Classic makes a lot of sense for Jaxx, a pro-technology, pro-blockchain wallet. After the successful integration of Dash last month, and now ETC, Jaxx currently has five tokens fully supported. Although Dash will soon be removed from the iOS version of Jaxx, user funds will continue to be available in all other versions of our app. We’re proud to be among the first to embrace the future, multi-coin world,” concluded Di Iorio.
Since launching in June 2016, over 40,000 users have downloaded Jaxx.
Jaxx by Decentral is a multi-token blockchain wallet that provides a unified experience across 9 platforms and devices, including Windows, Apple and Linux desktops, Apple and Android mobile devices and tablets, as well as Google Chrome and Firefox extensions. The Jaxx wallet enables crypto-to-crypto buying and selling with frictionless in-wallet conversion. Users are always in control of their keys and Jaxx neither holds nor has access to customer funds. Design and user experience driven, and built with simplicity in mind, Jaxx’s mission is to become the interface to the blockchain world.
