Japan’s TIS Inc., one of the country’s largest payment processors handling nearly $2 trillion in annual transactions, has unveiled a new multi-token platform built on Avalanche’s AvaCloud infrastructure.
The launch marks a major step toward the tokenization of Japan’s financial ecosystem, bridging traditional banking systems with blockchain innovation.
The platform will allow banks, corporations, and public institutions to issue and settle digital assets, stablecoins, and tokenized deposits in a compliant and scalable environment. Built using Avalanche’s enterprise-focused AvaCloud service, the network has been tailored to meet Japan’s strict regulatory standards under the Payment Services Act, ensuring robust permissioning, compliance, and interoperability with existing financial systems.
TIS’s move signals the company’s ambition to become a central player in Japan’s programmable finance era, as the nation accelerates its exploration of real-time digital payment frameworks and on-chain settlement solutions. The initiative also aligns with Japan’s broader goal of modernizing its financial infrastructure while maintaining consumer protection and regulatory oversight.
As one of the core processors behind Japan’s credit card and debit networks, TIS plans to integrate this platform with its existing financial infrastructure, effectively merging traditional finance (TradFi) with blockchain-based settlement rails. The result is a unified digital payments environment that could lower costs, increase transparency, and improve transaction speed across industries.
Looking ahead, the new platform is designed with future capabilities in mind, including potential participation in central bank digital currency (CBDC) testing and the creation of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).
With this launch, TIS joins a growing wave of financial institutions adopting Avalanche’s technology stack to power regulated digital asset ecosystems, reinforcing Japan’s position as one of the world’s most forward-thinking markets in blockchain innovation.
