On February 16, 2017, IBM made two announcements affecting the development of the Internet of Things (IoT). At the first-ever Genius of Things Summit in Munich, Germany, IBM announced a partnership with Indiegogo and Arrow Electronics to help bring new IoT ideas to life. The collaboration gives qualified Indiegogo entrepreneurs free and unlimited access to the IBM Watson IoT Platform via Bluemix, a service that offers more than 160 industry-leading cloud services for integration of ready-to-use technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, advanced data analytics, and cyber security. In addition, qualified startups will be given access to IBM’s global network of industry expertise, education, and business partners.
Complementing IBM’s services and benefits, Arrow will provide qualified Indiegogo campaigns with various benefits worth up to $500,000, including component parts, product design and prototyping tools, technical reviews with Arrow engineers, supply chain services, and sustainable recycling.
Harriet Green, general manager of Watson IoT, states:
"We are thrilled to partner with Indiegogo and Arrow Electronics to accelerate IoT innovation and development around the world working hand in hand with some of the best and brightest entrepreneurs, developers and startups to build an even better IoT."
IBM has also announced a collaboration with technology company Bosch to integrate Bosch IoT Suite services into the IBM Watson IoT Platform, allowing for custom application development. The partnership will give IoT solution developers access to the “Bosch IoT Rollouts” service for advanced device management and cloud-based software updates via Bluemix. Dr. Rainer Kallenbach, CEO of Bosch Software Innovations, states:
"IoT is changing and transforming everything from business to life. Only those companies will succeed that are able to collaborate in ecosystems. Only new ecosystems provide the strategic basis for open platforms and interoperability. Together we will make IoT solution development easier and faster for our customers."
