- Merkle Tree
Merkle trees are ways to represent very large datasets that change over time, and to verify that each change is cryptographically secure, meaning it cannot be altered once committed to the tree. The security is provided by means of a hash. Hash trees of this sort are useful because they allow efficient and secure verification of the contents of large data structures. The tree diagram is a helpful way of visually organizing the process a blockchain undergoes in authenticating its contents as true, unique and correct.
