  • Changera, a fast-growing cross-border payments startup, has teamed up with MoneyGram and Stellar to offer cash-in and cash-out services across Canada, Senegal, Uganda, and Kenya.
  • This strategic collaboration enables Changera to further its mission of democratizing access to cross-border payments worldwide, aiding financial inclusion in unserved and underserved regions.

Changera, an African-based fintech startup established in 2021, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with MoneyGram, a pioneer in digital P2P payments, and Stellar, an open-source blockchain network. This partnership marks an essential milestone in Changera’s journey towards making cross-border payments more accessible globally.

Bridging the Financial Gap with Stellar

Changera, in this global stride, enables both cash-in services in Canada, Senegal, Uganda, and Kenya and cash-out services using Circle’s stablecoin, USDC, over the Stellar blockchain network. This offering is available at MoneyGram outlets in more than 180 countries. Users from the aforementioned countries can now cash-in at their nearest MoneyGram agents into their Changera Wallets, providing a swift and cost-effective solution.

Ruth Iselema, the CEO of Changera, expressed her excitement about the integration. She mentioned that the primary aim of this collaboration is to simplify funding for Changera wallets for users. A timely solution, indeed, as approximately 1.4 billion people currently do not have bank accounts globally, and 60% of adults worldwide operate in the cash economy despite having access to digital wallets.

Reiterating this enthusiasm, Umar Adamu, Chief Technology Officer at Changera, said the collaboration

“accentuates our commitment to fostering financial inclusion and empowering individuals throughout the continent.”

Changera’s move to integrate with MoneyGram’s trusted services marks a huge leap forward in its mission to democratize financial transactions, regardless of users’ geographical locations. It also highlights the fintech company’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion for the excluded, underserved regions in Africa, and the rest of the world. This reinforces Changera’s position as a trailblazer in the African Fintech landscape.
