The Filecoin Foundation, working alongside FilOz and key ecosystem developers, has officially launched the Filecoin Onchain Cloud on November 18, 2025, a major step toward bringing verifiable storage, retrieval, and payments entirely on-chain. The initiative introduces a decentralized cloud stack built for developers who need transparent, resilient, and customizable infrastructure beyond the limits of traditional centralized providers.
The Onchain Cloud is designed to make every layer of infrastructure, from storage to compute to payments, fully open, auditable, and interoperable. Developers can verify where their data is stored, how it is retrieved, and when payments occur, creating a new trust model for cloud services.
By relying on a globally distributed network of independent storage providers rather than a single company or data center, the system enhances uptime and reduces the risk of outages common to centralized platforms like AWS.
A core component of the launch is Filecoin Beam, which connects on-chain payments with verifiable data delivery. The tool uses a retrieval network that functions similarly to a decentralized CDN, enabling a sustainable model where storage providers are rewarded for reliably serving data. This design gives developers greater control, including real-time detection of data tampering, proof-of-storage guarantees, and transparent data provenance.
Positioned as a foundation for next-generation AI, data platforms, and high-integrity applications, the Filecoin Onchain Cloud builds on years of ecosystem progress, including the introduction of the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM) in 2023. The launch marks a significant milestone in the push to create a decentralized, verifiable alternative to today’s web infrastructure.
