- Elon Musk offers 1 million DOGE to anyone who can prove he owns an emerald mine.
- Dogecoin influencer (@cb_doge) claims that Elon Musk never owned an emerald mine.
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has rekindled his affinity for Dogecoin (DOGE) recently. After temporarily changing Twitter’s logo to the Shiba Inu – the mascot of the meme cryptocurrency – the entrepreneur is now stirring up the Dogecoin community with a new wager.
Musk has proposed a reward of 1 million DOGE, equivalent to roughly $83,500, for anyone who can demonstrate that he owns an emerald mine. The challenge comes after DogeDesigner (@cb_doge), a Twitter account popular among the Dogecoin community, alleged that Musk has never owned an emerald mine.

Origin of the Emerald Mine Story
The controversy surrounding Musk’s supposed ownership of the emerald mine dates back to 2014. In a Forbes interview that year, Musk himself drew attention to the story. Freelance journalist Jim Clash conducted an interview with Musk, who was widely regarded as a prodigy at the time. Musk casually mentioned the emerald mine story, relating it to his late father, Errol Musk.
A Fresh Denial and a Reward Offer
In January this year, Musk refuted the existence of the mine, tweeting, “The fake emerald mine thing is so annoying (sigh). Like where exactly is this thing anyway!?” Tech critic Paris Marx responded, “Musk and his family seem particularly sensitive about shaping the narrative about their history lately, especially around the emerald mine. They act like they’ve never heard of it before, even though he bragged to Forbes about it in 2014.”
The interview in question has since been removed from the Forbes website. Clash, the journalist who wrote the piece for Forbes, told Futurism in January that he didn’t know why the publication deleted the interview. “I did interview Elon, he said what he said, and I don’t know why they’d take it down.”
