DEVCON 2, September 19
DEVCON 2, the second largest event comprehensively dedicated to the Ethereum technology hits Shanghai, at the Hyatt on the Bund Hotel, in just a couple of weeks.
Showcasing the best projects being developed with Ethereum, and the most prolific figures in the industry leading panels and discussions, DEVCON 2 is THE event to be at for those within the Ethereum industry. The Welcome Panel on September 19, 2016, will present opening remarks by Ethereum Executive Director, Ming Chan followed by the Foundation’s lead developers: Vitalik Buterin, Dr. Christian Reitwiessner, Alex Van de Sande, and Jeff Wilcke.
Vitalik will start the show with a 25-minute overview of Ethereum. He will cover all the moving parts of the Ethereum blockchain: uncles, proof of work, what gas is, how contracts call other contracts, and who runs them. Dr. Greg Colvin, Martin Becze, Pawel Bylica, Dr. Christian Reitwiessner, Alex Beregszaszi and others will power the helm of the panels to follow.
Evolving the EVM will discuss the evolution of the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Swap, Swear, and Swindle: Swarm Incentivisation is a panel discussion about Swarm and its ability to solve the delicate issue of providing a robust peer-to-peer content storage and retrieval system that will balance the needs of service providers and consumers. Viktor Trón and Dr. Aron Fischer lead this introduction to the swarm incentive. Swarm touches upon multiple strands of research that are being conducted within the Ethereum ecosystem. This panel hopes to achieve a coherent understanding of that research with a cohesive narration.
Dr. Greg Colvin will lead what he calls, “Making the EVM Scream.” He’ll explain how he got the Ethereum Virtual Machine interpreter, where it was, and where it will be in the future. Heiko Hees will then present the Raiden Network, its implementation, use cases, API, and other examples of them. Dr. Christian Reitwiessner will discuss “trying to fool a blockchain.” Viktor Trón will give a thorough presentation on the Web3 infrastructure and Ethereum’s multi-protocol stack, which offers the unique opportunity to directly implement web interactions as contractually binding agreements.
Jeff Coleman discusses state channels and blockchain applications. TJ Saw discusses the Rust based Parity internals, and Martin Becze follows up with eWASM: An Experimental VM Design demo. Vlad Zamfir and Vitalik Buterin then present an in-depth investigation of sharding as a scalability solution in Ethereum.
Bob Summerwill will then head to the foyer room of the hotel to discuss Ethereum for resource-limited devices such as mobile, wearables, SBCs, and IoT. Vitalik Buterin, in the grand ballroom, will give a Casper design overview, while Lucius Greg Meredith discusses behavior types for smart contracts. Zooko Wilcox will explain Zcash and Ethereum. Dr. Virgil Griffith and Vikram Verma will show designs for the L4 contract programming language based on Deontic Modal Logic.
This completes the overview of panels and events to take place during the first day of DEVCON 2. Panels will be broken up with recesses and a catered lunch. As Shanghai prepares for the largest gathering of purveyors, enthusiasts, and the greatest minds in Ethereum, we’ll be counting down the days until this monumental event takes place.
