Crowdsourced Encyclopedia Will Reward Users For Peer Reviewing And Contributions

Lunyr is an Ethereum-based knowledge platform similar to Wikipedia that will reward users with app tokens for their work.

Lunyr is an Ethereum-based decentralized reference platform determined to serve as a Wikipedia of the blockchain. However, unlike Wikipedia, Lunyr seeks to reward users with app tokens for peer reviews and information contributions. Eventually, Lunyr seeks to function as a next-generation knowledge base API that developers can utilize to create decentralized applications (Dapps) for technologies such as: Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and more.

Currently the Ethereum blockchain does not have real-world information. However, such information is necessary for applications to be useful. The Lunyr API will function as a real-world database that Dapps can utilize to obtain information on actual events and happenings.

Arnold Pham, co-founder of Lunyr tells ETHNews:

“Our data is stored on IPFS which is decentralized and will be migrated to Swarm when it releases on the Mainnet. After PoS and the computational speed upgrade in [Serenity], everything is planned for migration and specific to Ethereum. Currently, all of our contracts, financial logic, data references, and security are on the Ethereum blockchain.”

According to Alexa, seven of the top ten websites focus on procurement and searching information, with Wikipedia being the most sought-after reference site as many see it as reliable. However, Wikipedia remains vulnerable to misinformation because many articles can be edited by anyone with internet connectivity.

Pham said, “Lunyr can be thought of as the knowledge layer of Ethereum, driven by consensus and economic incentives, for creating next generation decentralized applications.”

Ethereum allows for applications to run as programmed without fraud, censorship, or third-party interference. “Using Ethereum, Lunyr creates a next generation knowledge base that solves the problem of inaccurate information and pushes the boundaries of crowdsourced knowledge,” said Pham.

The Lunyr app tokens will be used as an incentive to substitute mediators. The tokens will play a key role in maintaining accountability so that rational behavior can be incentivized for the sake of the common good. All content submissions will go through a required review process that involves information being verified. Once the information is validated for reliability and accuracy, it is committed to the knowledge base. Incentivizing the ecosystem should result in more accurate and reliable information.

As far as deployment, Pham told ETHNews that “[Lunyr] can't give exact dates because events keep occurring on the Ethereum network out of our control which delay development time.”

The Lunyr token crowdsale will launch on March 29, 2017, at 16:00 UTC. Pham expects the following schedule:

1. Q2 2017 is the invitation-only alpha release;

2. Q3 2017 is the official Testnet release; and

3. Q1 2018 is the official Mainnet release.
