Samson Mow, the COO of BTCC, mentioned in a tweet of a possible future mining pool for Ethereum Classic.
I'm planning to launch an ETC pool. Anyone interested to help beta test? Maybe in a week or so.— Samson Mow (@Excellion) August 18, 2016
If the Chinese-based exchange were to add this currency to their pool, it would become the second major mining pool to support Ethereum Classic. MinerGate announced their support last month.
Since launching in 2011, BTCC has become one of the biggest Bitcoin exchanges in the world. Besides adding Litecoin, the exchange and mining pool have only focused on Bitcoin. There has been no interest in Ethereum at all, including mining it or adding it to their trading platform.
Testing an ETC mining pool is a big deal for the company. Even though Ethereum generates more blocks at a faster rate, Ethereum Classic has proven several times in the past month it is more profitable than ETH.
For Ethereum Classic, this future addition will only strengthen the currency’s staying power. Most coins fade from the markets due to lack of support, this could come from the exchanges or wallets. If the coins do not have any support from mining pools, they have no way of surviving.
Even with the announcement, it remains to be seen if other mining pools will join in their support.
