Elevating Privacy with Ethereum Vault Relays

In the burgeoning world of cryptocurrencies, ensuring user privacy remains paramount. Casa, a revered self-custody cryptocurrency platform, truly acknowledges this and has unveiled a new transaction relay feature tailored for Ethereum users. This addition is particularly designed for those transacting from their recently inaugurated Ether vaults, letting them transact via a relay, thereby amplifying privacy.

Last June, Casa broadened its horizon beyond its initial Bitcoin custody offering by introducing a multisignature Ethereum self-custody vault. This innovative feature empowers users to self-custodize their Ethereum holdings, backed by the heightened security of up to five private keys.

The Genesis of the ETH Pay Wallet Relay

To grant Ethereum users more transactional discretion, Casa has ingeniously integrated a mechanism allowing users to employ an ETH pay wallet as a relay for creating and executing transactions from their vault. While Casa had been facilitating interactions between users’ Ethereum vaults and the Ethereum blockchain through its proprietary Casa Relay, it presented a minor hiccup. Users’ Ethereum addresses tied to Casa could be traced and viewed publicly using blockchain explorers.

Addressing this, Casa’s answer was the ETH pay wallet. This unique single-signature wallet operates as a relay, ensuring transactions from a vault remain unassociated with Casa on the blockchain. Nick Neuman, the CEO of Casa, elucidated that transactions and gas fees from this pay wallet would break the on-chain link to Casa.

Neuman emphasized that this feature wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment addition but rather a well-thought-out development.

“Anticipating our advanced users’ needs, we proactively devised the Pay Wallet Relay. While some relish the superior on-chain discretion it provides, others find solace in the sheer ease of Casa Relay,”

he remarked.

But Neuman also made it crystal clear that this isn’t an obfuscation service.

“Every on-chain activity remains transparent, similar to any wallet. What changes is the disconnection from Casa on-chain,”

he clarified.

While this service does require some extra steps when compared to the conventional Casa Relay, and users will shoulder the gas fees via their pay wallet, the payoff is significant. It provides an added layer of privacy for those cautious of their on-chain Ethereum addresses being linked back to Casa.
