- With an updated certificate curriculum, the non-profit “My First Bitcoin” group in El Salvador is revolutionizing Bitcoin education.
- The Bitcoin Diploma program has translations into 23 languages and a global network of educators, so it goes beyond El Salvador.
The innovative “Mi Primer Bitcoin” (My First Bitcoin) organization has propelled El Salvador to the forefront of Bitcoin education on a worldwide scale.
Recently, it made significant improvements to its Bitcoin Diploma program, which has raised the bar for financial literacy in the digital age.
Historical Beginnings in Education
In 2021, El Salvador became the first country to legalize Bitcoin as cash with the Bitcoin Law. In June 2022, “My First Bitcoin” launched a revolutionary 10-week Bitcoin Diploma program to capitalize on this interest.
This unprecedented program recruited 38 public school kids and included Bitcoin instruction into the national curriculum.
The non-profit’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education demonstrates El Salvador’s commitment to adopting digital currency. The main teaching tool, an open-source workbook, demonstrates an open, inclusive, and transparent approach to Bitcoin literacy.
As part of a significant program expansion, 700 public school teachers are being trained as part of a pilot project in collaboration with Bitcoin Beach to spread this information across the country.
Worldwide Network and Innovative Curricula
In March 2023, My First Bitcoin created a “Node Network” that brought together frontline Bitcoin educators from all around the world. With the adoption of the Bitcoin Diploma by 29 educational projects in 18 countries, the project is becoming international.
The curriculum edition for 2024 adds even more depth to this educational mosaic by exploring the development of digital currency, the history of money, and the intricate workings of Bitcoin, including the Lightning Network.

Multilingual Outreach and Open-Source Access
The 175-page workbook, intended for an extensive ten-week program, may be accessed on GitHub, enabling worldwide involvement in curriculum translation.
The translation of the 2023 curriculum into 23 languages by more than 40 foreign educators is a prime example of the widespread zeal and spirit of cooperation that are propelling this educational revolution.
My First Bitcoin’s visionary founder, John Dennehy, highlights the educational program’s capacity to change lives. The program aims to promote innovation, strategic planning, and a fundamental redesign of financial systems by providing individuals with understanding of digital finance.
