Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao has reignited one of crypto’s oldest debates with a bold new prediction: Bitcoin will eventually flip gold in total market capitalization.
In a post shared Monday, CZ acknowledged he doesn’t know when it will happen, but expressed full confidence that Bitcoin’s long-term trajectory will overtake gold’s $29.6 trillion market cap. “It might take some time, but it will happen. Save the tweet,” he wrote, alongside a chart comparing the world’s most valuable assets.

According to the latest data, Bitcoin ranks 8th globally with a $2.21 trillion market cap, trading near $111,000, just behind Amazon and ahead of Meta Platforms (Facebook). Gold remains the dominant store of value with a market cap nearly 13 times larger, but Bitcoin’s exponential adoption curve has already propelled it past silver and major tech companies in certain market cycles.
CZ’s statement echoes a broader sentiment within the crypto community that Bitcoin’s scarcity, decentralization, and growing institutional acceptance could one day position it as the digital successor to gold, the ultimate hedge against inflation and monetary debasement.
While the timeline remains uncertain, one thing is clear: Bitcoin’s ascent to challenge gold’s throne is no longer fantasy, it’s a matter of time and conviction.
