  • Binance Charity earmarks up to $3 million in BNB for those affected by the Moroccan earthquake.
  • Users in the hardest-hit Marrakesh-Safi Province with prior Proof of Address will receive $100 in BNB.

Blockchain to the Rescue: Binance’s Humanitarian Initiative

In the wake of the tragic earthquake that shook Morocco, Binance Charity has risen to the occasion, displaying an innovative use of blockchain for humanitarian assistance. The charity aims to disburse up to $3 million in Binance Coin (BNB) to users residing in the earthquake-ravaged regions.

Priority will be given to those users from the Marrakesh-Safi Province — the area most severely affected. Those who had completed their Proof of Address (POA) formalities before September 9, 2023, stand to gain a direct credit of $100 in BNB to their Binance accounts.

Understanding the challenges and urgency, Binance is also extending assistance to those who might not have completed their POA by the said date. Users finalizing their POA between September 9 and September 30, 2023, will be credited with $25 in BNB.

Expanding the Horizon: BNB Airdrop Beyond Ground Zero

Binance’s outreach isn’t confined to the core impacted area. As a nod to their loyal clientele across Morocco, every active transacting user outside the primary affected region will receive an airdrop of $10 in BNB. This gesture underscores the firm’s commitment, aiming to touch approximately 70,000 users in Morocco, with funds commencing distribution on September 12, 2023.

The aftermath of such natural calamities often results in compromised traditional banking systems, exacerbating the crisis for affected individuals who urgently require funds for essentials. Cryptocurrency, with its attributes of rapidity, minimal costs, global reach, and transparency, emerges as a powerful tool to facilitate aid. The CEO of Binance, CZ, remarked on the tragedy, urging recipients who remain unaffected to extend the funds to those genuinely in dire straits.

In a bid to consolidate efforts, Binance Charity has inaugurated a public crypto donation channel. The crypto contributions, whether in BNB, BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, or BUSD, will be forwarded to a soon-to-be-announced reputable NGO to further assist the victims.

Through this endeavor, Binance not only aids the victims but also exemplifies the potential of blockchain in humanitarian initiatives, cementing its commitment to its Moroccan community.
