Microsoft Launches The First Sports Blockchain

Following its launch of Asia’s first Ethereum-based blockchain consortium network in Taiwan, Microsoft  announced an alliance with AMIS, Taiwan Triathlon Co. Ltd., ITRI, and Fubon Financial Holdings for the establishment of the first sports blockchain in the world, BraveLog.

BraveLog is a platform created to provide strong support to adapt the blockchain into sports by focusing on the players themselves.

“The world's first sports blockchain ‘BraveLog’ was applied on Microsoft Azure platform. The key advantages of Azure platform include openness, transparency and scalability. It also supports the distributed ledger technology and provides the controllable high-speed cloud computing capacity.”

BraveLog aims to record sports events, establish the CV of the player, and serve as a reference for coaches to train athletes in order to cultivate elite national athletes by utilizing big data. It also hopes to elevate the industry by establishing a social platform, integrating with current sign-up and payment systems, and allowing multiple device access that will enable players to understand their own capabilities and design personal, effective training plans.

BraveLog will serve as a gateway for the Microsoft Azure platform to be interspersed with other sectors in Taiwan. It can calculate player compensation and premium adjustments by storing sports data in Microsoft Azure’s cloud. This information can be integrated with insurance and medical services in order to generate insurance models that are tailored to each player’s needs. It is Microsoft’s goal to continue expansion by developing blockchain technology across the various Taiwanese industries.

“Aside from insurance and medical services, blockchain can also be adopted by the energy, the food and other industries, enabling innovation within the industry, facilitating the integration and application among different sectors, and making the application of blockchain goes beyond frontiers.”

The popular brand, Taiwan Triathlon, will officially launch BraveLog at the Garmin LAVA Dapeng Bay Triathlon on January 7, 2017, in Taiwan and will track sports data and provide event results that will be added to the 2017 LAVA series competition.

Jerry Gong, EPG Lead, Microsoft Taiwan said:

"Microsoft Taiwan has high expectations over the potential of blockchain technology and will continue the efforts in expanding the application of Microsoft Azure BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) to more industries and scenarios. This time we join hands with AMIS, Taiwan Triathlon Co. Ltd., ITRI and Fubon Financial Holdings to launch the world's first sports blockchain 'BraveLog’.”

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Jan. 4, 2017 -- Last October Microsoft entered partnership with AMIS and Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan (ITRI) and formed the first blockchain consortium network on Azure. Meanwhile, Microsoft was also in collaboration with many banks such as Fubon Financial Holdings. After a short period of one and a half month, Microsoft furthered blockchain technology into a new area and announced the alliance with AMIS, Taiwan Triathlon Co. Ltd., ITRI and Fubon Financial Holdings and established the first sports blockchain "BraveLog" in the world. BraveLog aims to record sports events and sportsmen profile. Using Microsoft Azure Platform, the blockchain structure developed by AMIS and the front channel developed by ITRI, a high profile and secure sports activity sharing platform is established. BraveLog, a new milestone of blockchain application, is estimated to be officially launched at the Garmin LAVA Dapeng Bay Triathlon on January 7th.

The advantageous Microsoft Azure platform aims to provide strong support for blockchain adaptation in sports

Blockchain is a decentralized structure. Every block has the capability to perform complete backup and simultaneous data maintenance. Currently the world is proactively exploring possible business adaptation of blockchain in different domains. Meeting the needs of the financial industry, blockchain platform grants features such as immutable and irreplaceable record. It provides distributed replica, shared ledger and so on, which allow a low-risk and simplified process so as to generate greater values. In addition to the application in the financial industry, it also fits the requirements of the sports domain. Therefore, the sports blockchain is born. Focusing on the participating player himself, the sports blockchain aims to record sports events and establish the sports CV of the player. With the credibility and availability of the data at its core, the sports blockchain differentiates itself by providing a player based rather than an event based enquiry structure. In the future, sports data can be accessed across multiple devices, which will enable players to understand their capabilities, manage their personal training journey effectively, design training plan accordingly, so as to achieve the goal of facilitating sports experience and expand the spectrum of the sports industry.

The world's first sports blockchain "BraveLog" was applied on Microsoft Azure platform. The key advantages of Azure platform include openness, transparency and scalability. It also supports the distributed ledger technology and provides the controllable high-speed cloud computing capacity. The platform complies with the ISO 27001, ISO 27018, PCI-DSS industrial standards and regulations, which effectively integrates and complements different applications and scenarios. The front channel application of BraveLog developed by ITRI fully adopts Microsoft Azure PaaS, and the Visual Studio Team Services that allows the development team to practice agile development, share coding and track work log. The Wep App and Azure SQL Database enable fast build, web App deployment and auto-adjusting load balancer with the most economical and efficient way that is able to accommodate future user growth on BraveLog.

Jerry Gong, EPG Lead, Microsoft Taiwan said, "Microsoft Taiwan has high expectations over the potential of blockchain technology and will continue the efforts in expanding the application of Microsoft Azure BaaS (Blockchain as a Service) to more industries and scenarios. This time we join hands with AMIS, Taiwan Triathlon Co. Ltd., ITRI and Fubon Financial Holdings to launch the world's first sports blockchain 'BraveLog'. This is truly an important milestone for the development of blockchain in Taiwan. As a powerful support for the fundamental structure of sports blockchain, Microsoft Azure accommodates the human-oriented requirements and reduces the cost and risk of centralized management. Furthering from the Fintech blockchain, Microsoft Azure also collaborates with medical services, supply chain, the food industry and other sectors in the development of blockchain technology. Fruitful results can surely be seen in the near future."
